If you came to camp, what would you remember most? Would
it be whitewater rafting down a cold river on a hot day, playing on a
giant snowfield atop a mountain in the middle of summer, paddling a
canoe around the crystal waters of Lake Tumblesom, falling asleep
while watching shooting stars or doing all these things with the new
friends you made at camp?

CYP changes boys’ and girls’ lives and empowers
them to make a difference in our world. Campers study wildlife, forests
and weather. They breathe the fresh air and revel in the beauty of
their natural surroundings. Furthermore, through CYP’s unique
Environmental Hero Projects, campers are taught the value of
conserving our natural resources and making the world a better place.
Of course CYP campers have fun too, as CYP leads them in exciting
outdoor activities from white-water rafting and playing in alpine
snowfields to preparing their own meals and sleeping under the stars.
Campers enjoy a very personalized camp setting consisting of just 12
kids and four counselors per campsite, so each camper plays an active
role in helping the camp run smoothly on a daily basis. CYP operates
two campsites simultaneously, situated about 1/2 mile apart. This
intimate setting ensures that each camper’s needs are addressed and
that everyone is a highly involved part of a tight knit community.
 It’s
hard to imagine a more beautiful place! Nestled high in the Rockies
along Colorado’s Front Range, CYP Mountain Summer Camp is about 25
miles west of Boulder, Colorado and 2 miles north of Brainard Lake
National Recreation Area, at nearly 9,000 feet in elevation. The
property is over 400 acres and provides direct access to thousands of
acres of pristine National Forest lands. Private access to Lake
Tumblesom provides CYP campers with many recreational opportunities
including fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Wildlife sightings regularly
include
deer, elk, coyotes, moose, turkeys, eagles, otters and more.

Although CYP counselors can often be seen
acting like children, playing games, dressing in costume and acting
silly, rest assured that they are outdoor and youth professionals.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree and experience
working in the outdoors with children. While many camps hire college or
even high school students, CYP counselors are mature adults with proven
track records. All CYP staff are certified in first aid and CPR and
often have advanced safety training, including Wilderness First
Responder, Lifeguard and EMT.
Thank you all so much for being such
wonderful, caring counselors. Thank you also for teaching us so many
things, helping with meals, laughing with us, singing us bedtime songs
and countless other things. I had such a great time at camp this year
and
I really appreciate all your hard work.

Meals are a big part of CYP because campers
help prepare and cook each meal from scratch. Each nutritionally
balanced meal features a wide variety of options, from the traditional
hamburgers, brats and corn on the cob to pasta, pancakes and a Mexican
Fiesta Night. S’mores too!
 In traditional
canvas platform tents — it wouldn’t be a true summer camp experience
without them. They aren’t flashy, but they quickly become a place where
you fit in. Our tents are weatherproof, but they’re simple enough for
you to hear the sound of summer rain on the roof.
